STRUCTURI INSTITUȚIONALE ȘI ELITE DIN ȚARA SILVANIEI ÎN SECOLELE XIV–XVII
Proiect finanțat de către Consiliul Național al Cercetării Științifice din Invățământul Superior (CNCSIS)
Studierea realităților istorice medievale și premoderne din Țara Silvaniei, precum s-a menționat mai sus (link), se poate realiza numai prin prelucrarea și editarea arhivei familiei Wesselényi. Problematica arhivelor familiale din Transilvania, în special prin contribuțiile publicate de către arhiviștii Liviu si Maria Ursuțiu, a beneficiat de o serie de cercetări, atât sub aspect teoretico-metodologic, cât și aplicativ (procesul de formare al arhivelor familiale, prelucrarea acestora etc). Cele mai recente contribuții, vizibile si pe plan international, reprezinta insă realizarile cercetatorului W. Kovács András, directorul proiectului propus. Printre acestea se remarcă volumele The History of the Wass de Czege Family (Hamburg, Edmund Siemers Stiftung, 2005.), și A Wass család cegei leveltára [Fondul familial Wass de Țaga] (Cluj-Napoca, Editura Societății Muzeului Ardelean, 2006), dar și o bază de date privind istoria și genealogia familiilor nobiliare din Transilvania, accesibila tuturor cercetătorilor (link). In ceea ce privește aria tematică a proiectului propus, menționam cercetările semnate de către András Magyari (editarea jurnalelor lui Ștefan Wesselényi), de Adrian Andrei Rusu (publicarea diplomelor anterioare anului 1360, aflate in arhiva familială), precum și cele ale lingvistului Attila T. Szabó (editarea diplomelor în limba maghiară din secolul al XVI-lea păstrate in fondul Wesselényi).
Obiectivele proiectului:
1. Proiectul de față dorește să abordeze istoria socială, economică și administrativă a ținutului Sălaj în cursul evului mediu și al epocii premoderne prin prelucrarea arhivei familiei Wesselényi. În acest fel, se constituie baza documentară pentru studierea istoriei unei regiuni puțin cunoscute, dar în același timp se oferă un reper comparativ substanțial și un material inedit cercetării istorice românești. Prin proiectul propus membrii colectivului de cercetare urmăresc să integreze studiul istoriei acestei regiuni in curentul principal al cercetării naționale de profil.
2. În dorința de a contribui la reconstituirea cât mai completă și complexă a realităților acestei regiuni în cursul evului mediu și al epocii premoderne, intenționăm să punem in circuitul științific materialul de arhiva inedit, conservat in arhivele din Cluj-Napoca și Budapesta. Prin urmare, unul dintre obiectivele proiectului îl constituie întocmirea unui volum cuprinzând documentele familiei Wesselényi anterioare instaurării regimului Habsburgic în Transilvania (1690) sub forma de regeste in limba maghiară. Acest corpus de documente va fi completat cu studii introductive referitoare la istoria familiei și a constituirii arhivei, precum și de un indice cuprinzând toate toponimele și numele de persoane din materialul volumului, la care se adaugă tabele genealogice, harți și rezumatul volumului intr-o limbă de largă circulație. Volumul va conține și un conspect al arhivei prezentând fiecare fascicol în parte (cca. 500 de fascicole), menit să înlesnească viitoarele cercetări.
3. Acordăm o atenție deosebită studiilor de sinteză, prin analiza izvoarelor menționate, constituindu-se premise favorabile pentru redactarea unor articole referitoare la istoria familiilor Wesselényi și Jakcs, la istoria socială, economică și culturală a regiunii, respectiv la constituirea arhivei menționate.
4. Organizarea unei conferinte internationale pe tema: Arhivele familiale și cercetarea istorică. Problemele abordate in cadrul conferinței vor avea drept scop prezentarea celor mai recente realizări în domeniu.
Elementele originale și impactul estimat al proiectului de față:
1. Izvoarele publicate pot fi fructificate în diferite domenii ale istoriei: în cercetarea istoriei sociale, economice, ecleziastice, culturale a Transilvaniei, dar și în cea a știintelor auxiliare ale istoriei, anume genealogia și paleografia. Odată publicată, arhiva Wesselényi va oferi posibilitatea de a cerceta următoarele probleme:
– Elita nobiliara comitatensa in Sălajul medieval și premodern (legături cu aristocrația contemporană, politici matrimoniale, reprezentare, etc.)
– Funcționarea administrației comitatense în zona de tranziție dintre Transilvania voievodală și Ungaria
– Administrarea și gospodarirea moșiilor nobilimii mari și mici in bazinul mijlociu al Someșului (analiza urbariilor întocmite de funcționarii administrației domeniale)
– Relațiile interetnice din Sălajul medieval și premodern (analiza listelor decimale, a urbariilor, a conscripțiilor, având în vedere că locuitorii satelor familiei Wesselényi aparțineau etniei române în valea Someșului, respectiv maghiare in zona Hododului)
2. Considerăm că pregatirea pentru editare a documentelor aflate în una dintre cele mai bogate arhive familiale ale Transilvaniei ar insemna o contribuție semnificativă la cercetarea istorică medievală și premondernă.
3. Prin editarea corpusului intenționăm reconstituirea unitații inițiale a arhivei Wesselényi, părțile sale fiind conservate in prezent in arhivele din Cluj-Napoca și Budapesta.
4. Familia Wesselényi, originară din teritoriul Slovaciei de astăzi, fiind una dintre cele mai prestigioase familii aristocrate ale Principatului și Monarhiei Austriece, corpusul de documente poate fi util atat cercetătorilor din România, cât și celor din Ungaria, Slovacia și Austria.

INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURES AND ELITES IN SILVANIA REGION IN THE 14TH–17TH CENTURIES
Project objectives
The research of the historical realities of the Medieval and Early Modern Salaj region, as it has been mentioned above (link), can be carried out only through the processing and edition of the Wesselenyi family archive. The problem of Transylvanian family archives has been tackled, especially by Liviu and Maria Ursuțiu, in a number of studies from theoretical-methodological points of view, as well as well as from the perspective of practical applicability (the formation process of the archives, the processing of the archival material, etc.). The most recent contributions, present at an international level as well, are the achievements of András W. Kovács, leader of the proposed project. Among these the volumes The History of the Wass de Czege Family (Hamburg, Edmund Siemers Stiftung, 2005) and A Wass család cegei levéltára [The Archive of the Wass de Țaga Family] (Cluj, 2006) have to be mentioned, as well as the genealogical and historical database regarding the Transylvanian noble families (http://www.familyhistory.ro/), which is freely accessible to researchers. As regards the thematic area of the proposed project, the research-work of Professor Andrei Magyari (the edition of István Wesselényi`s diaries), of Professor Adrian Andrei Rusu (the publication of the pre-1360 documents preserved in the family archive) and that of the linguist Attila T. Szabó (the processing of the 16th century Hungarian-language records found in the family archive) has to be mentioned.
The objectives of the project
1. The present project wishes to explore the Medieval and Early Modern social, economic and administrative history of the Salaj region by processing the archive of the Wesselenyi family. This work would constitute the documentary basis of the research of a relatively unknown region, and at the same time it would provide a benchmark and a large amount of so far unpublished material for the Romanian historical research. With this project the research team intends to integrate the historical research of this region into the main current of the corresponding national research.
2. In order to contribute to a complex and comprehensive reconstruction of the Medieval and Early Modern realities of this region, we intend to introduce into the scientific circulation the unpublished archival material from Cluj and Budapest. Consequently, one of the main objectives of our project is to compile a volume containing the pre-1690 documents of the Wesselenyi family archive in Hungarian-language excerpts, or with complete text (in the case of the highly significant documents). The collection of documents will be accompanied by introductory studies discussing the history of the family and that of the family archive, as well as by different indexes (of personal and geographical names), genealogical charts, maps and abstracts in Romanian and in a language of international communication. The volume will also contain a conspectus of the archive (there are about 500 fasciculi in the archives of Cluj and Budapest) presenting each fasciculus separately in order to facilitate further research.
3. Special consideration will be given to comprehensive studies, as the analysis of the above presented sources constitutes favourable premise to the elaboration of several studies discussing the history of the Wesselenyi and Jakcs families, the social, economic and cultural history of the region, as well as the formation of the family archive.
4. An international conference will be organized, entitled: Family Archives and Historical Reseach. The questions addressed by the conference will give the opportunity to present the latest results in the field.
The original elements and the estimated impact of the proposed project:
1. The published source material will be applied in different domains of historical research: in the social, economic, cultural and church history of Transylvania, as well as in the auxiliary sciences of history, namely in genealogy and paleography. Once published, the Wesselenyi family archive will offer the possibility of further research on the following topics:
– The county nobility of the Medieval and Early Modern Salaj (their connexions with the contemporary aristocracy, matrimonial policies, nobiliar representation in the period, etc.)
– The functioning of county administration in the transition area between Transylvania and Hungary
– The administration of the estates of the high nobility and petty nobility in the Sălaj region (the analysis of the account books kept by the officials of the estates)
– The interethnic relations in the Medieval and Early Modern Salaj (analysis of the tithe records and of the account books of the estates, of conscriptions – taking into account the fact that the inhabitants of the villages belonging to the Wesselenyi estate were of Romanian ethnicity in the Someș valley and of Hungarian ethnicity in the region of Hodod/Hadad.)
2. We are of the opinion that the publishing of the documents of one of the richest Transylvanian family archives would contribute significantly to the research of Medieval and Early Modern history.
3. By the edition of this material we intend to reconstruct the initial unity of the Wesselényi archive, parts of which are preserved today in the archives of Cluj-Napoca and in Budapest.
4. The Wessélenyi family, originating from the territory of present-day Slovakia, was one of the most prestigious aristocratic families of the Principality and the Habsburg Monarchy, thus, the collection of documents from the family archive can be useful not only to researchers in Romania, but also to those in Hungary, Slovakia and Austria.
